Full Biography Inventors and Alcohol Thermometer Mercury, Gabriel Daniel Fahrenheit
In 1708 at the age of 22 years, Fahrenheit met with Ole Romer, Danish astronomer. Ole Romer died in 1710. Several years before his death Ole Romer makes thermometer
with the following scale; 60 degrees to the boiling point of water, 8 degrees to the melting point of ice, and 22.5 for the hot blood or human body temperature. To observe the weather, By Romer rarely use the top of the scale. Fahrenheit scale Ole Romer know weakness.
The next year (1709) makes Fahrenheit thermometer filled with alkolhol. He soon learned that alcohol is not good to be a temperature gauge because alcohol boils at a lower temperature. Except that, if the alcohol is mixed with water, the volume change with temperature. So he then tried to use other liquids. He held dozens of probation for 5 years. In 1714 he managed to make a thermometer filled with mercury or quicksilver. He improved Ole Romer scales.
Ten years later (1724) Fahrenheit report its findings to the Royal Society, British Institute of Sciences. Fahrenheit thermometer using the following scale: 32 degrees to freezing, 96 degrees to the human body temperature, 212 degrees to the boiling point. Because of his discovery Fahrenheit was appointed member of the Royal Society. Sixteen years later the Fahrenheit scale so very popular and outperform other scales, because at that time there were 35 kinds of scales. Fahrenheit thermometer used in the UK, USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
